We are keeping Lou's Legacy AliveThe Windsor Essex County Senior Sports Organization (WECSSO) was formed in the |
|||||
late 1980's as a sports organizing body for a senior slowpitch league. Today the organization
continues to thrive and remains a hotbed for local senior's to enjoy comraderie and sports.
Lou Dupuis was a long time member and proponent of WECSSO and wanted to do something
special for our local area underpriveldged kids. Lou was an accomplished athlete himself,
and bowling was his forte. He was voted Windsor's Bolwer of the year back in 1971, a four
time Molson Masters champion and was voted into the Windsor Chatham Essex Kent Bowling
Association Hall of Fame in 1988.
Lou Dupuis was an organizer and realized that he could leveredge his organizing talent to
help underpriveledged kids play sports. Lou had many friends and it didn’t take him long
to assemble an army to help him. Over the past 10 years, WECSSO has ammased nearly
$60,000 from this event and the organization is proud of the fact that 100% of this money
has went to helping kids play.
Each year the WECSSO executive committee receives applications for funding from various
local organizations and last years recepients included:
Windsor Police Community Services Branch
Sandwich Teen Action Group
WEC Special Stars Soccer League
Riverside Floor Hockey
Forest Glade Baseball League
Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association
Forest Glade Optimist Club
Lou worked tirelessly in making this event a success for the kids, but just as important to Lou
was making this event fun and affordable for the participants. The prize table has always been
outstanding, thanks to the support of local businesses (hundreds of prizes are received each year).
